While an experienced friend or family member, co-worker, or acquaintance from the gym might have the best intentions when offering advice to a struggling new mama, they do not have the finely-tuned skill set of a Lactation Consultant who carries the credential IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). Breastfeeding challenges can can come in the form of tethered oral tissue, breast refusal, clogged milk ducts, coordination problems (especially for preterm babies), and many other potentially complex situations. An IBCLC has met certain criteria that establish him/her as a breastfeeding expert as credentialed by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. You and your baby deserve the level of care provided by an IBCLC! Don't settle for less!
